Legends about crystal skulls can be found in numerous cultures. Today some say there is a crystal skull in the Vatican archives, one cherished by the Great White Brotherhood in Peru, one hidden in sacred caves in Tibet, one or more still to be found in the Yucatan area, and even one owned by the current Free Masons. One legend says that there isn’t just one skull hidden in Tibet, but either twelve or thirteen. Some say they were created in Atlantis and that actual priest’s heads were used as models and their knowledge projected like a holographic image that somehow crystallized. Some say the skulls came from our Star Nation ancestors from Pleiades or Sirius. The Hopi, Cherokee and Maya all have myths about how the ancient knowledge of the skulls allowed their people to live abundant lives for centuries. Most say that the original skulls all had moveable jaws and were able to communicate with man. Here is the legend of the teachers and elders that I have worked with.

In the beginning… all good legends start this way… Hunab K’u, or the word for God in Mayan, created the Universe and the Twelve Magickal Worlds. These Worlds are centers of life in our galaxy and reflect different stages of enlightenment. Earth is considered the child planet. Over the eons there have been a number of attempts to create a race to inhabit Earth that has the ability to understand the oneness of the Cosmos. Either the various attempts have been failures or were destroyed by cataclysmic odysseys leaving our planet one of duality. But, the ancestors didn’t give up easily and their vision of how beautiful our blue planet could be with consciously enlightened humans has endured and we may be seeing the end days of the present attempt. Hence the current belief of the Maya of moving from the fourth world into the fifth on December 21, 2012.

In this legend each of the eleven Magickal Worlds that were living in balance and harmony forged a life-size crystal skull and programmed it with the wisdom of their ages. Then they focused their intent and created the twelfth skull, which was a blueprint for Heyotomah, Earth. The thirteenth skull evolved as an index to the wisdom of all the skulls. They were brought to Earth by the Star Nation Grandmothers of the four original races of man and the Grandfathers offered their seed to spark the new race.

The legend varies as to when this happened, but around 35,000 years ago the skulls’ home was Mu, or Lemulia in the Itzae Maya language, when an asteroid hit in the Pacific destroying the continent. Escaping that carnage, the skulls were taken to Atlantis or Atlantiha where they remained for almost twenty-five thousand years. Then the rulers of Atlantis fearing their island’s destruction secretly disbursed the skulls to the four corners of the Earth. Their hopes were to preserve the knowledge as well as to spread it to all peoples, and the origins of the ancient Mystery Schools of our planet were founded.

The Maya’s calendar was developed to track the evolutionary consciousness of man. The current Long Count or Great Era of thirteen baktuns began in 3114 BCE and will end on the Winter Solstice in 2012 CE. The prophecy is that at this time an opportunity will exist for enlightened souls to move on to one of the other life centers within the Galaxy. The final chapter of the myth states that for this portal to open all of the thirteen original skulls must be reunited and this sets the premise for my novel, Saving the Crystal Skull.

There is an ancient grievance between two of the Magickal Worlds surrounding a previous attempt to colonize Earth and one has vowed to sabotage the current experiment, thus getting the revenge this small contingency feels they deserve. Stealing the thirteenth skull, the index, would keep the original array from being reunited and is the logical target. If the portal does not open cataclysmic destruction will be triggered and mankind will begin a decline that will eventually create the same fate as was experienced by Neanderthal Man.

Long lines of mortals that have retained the abilities to move between realities and communicate with the Galactic Council are aware of the possible sabotage attempt. The thirteenth skull, Sskwanasie, has been hidden in a sacred sanctuary deep in the jungles of Guatemala for millennia and protected by the lineage of the ancient Jaguar Dynasty of the Maya. In the battle between good and evil, events take a young Californian, Mack MacAlister, from innocence to discovering that he is integral to an ancient prophecy and has vowed in a previous lifetime to save a mysterious, life-size crystal skull. Mack is guided by Ichtaca, an old shaman who helps him in his quest to regain his powers; the intuitive magickal side of himself. And, then defying all rationality and in the midst of turmoil Mack finds his soul mate, Tlalli, and painfully realizes they have shared numerous lifetimes of unfulfilled passion. In a world where past, present and future are only separated by thin membranes, it becomes a race of wills to protect the skull from the mad Mexican magistrate, Rafael Sánchez, and ensure the portal between worlds opens at the end of the Maya Calendar on December 21, 2012.
